Our Disability and Mad Pride parade will take place on July 6th this year.
We fight for the rights of disabled people.
We say: The problem is ableism!
All people, whether disabled or not, are welcome.
Well, all people who are not right-wing and otherwise extremely problematic.
We will describe now how the day is going to unfold.
1 p.m. information stands: There are many of us!
From 1 p.m. there will be information stands on Frankenbadplatz.
That is in the old town (Altstadt) of Bonn.
We invite our partners to set up stands here.
2:30 p.m. rally: We claim our space.
From 2:30 p.m. disabled, chronically ill, mentally ill, Mad, neurodivergent and or Deaf people are going to talk about what is important to them.
The rally will also take place on Frankenbadplatz.
During the rally we invite you to do whatever makes you feel good.
For example, you can
- leave earlier or come later
- take a break in between
- eat and drink something
- go to the toilet
We provide water and allergy-friendly food.
We are also working on where you can best go to the toilet nearby.
We want the rally to be accessible.
There is, of course, not something such as complete accessibility.
We will, however, do our very best.
Let’s go into more detail…
There will be interpreters for German sign language.
There is a type of written interpretation.
You can read what is being said in a pad.
We translate everything into simple language.
All announcements will be in simple language.
For those who can’t sit on the floor there will be chairs and rickshaws.
We are so grateful that Radeln ohne Alter provides both the rickshaws and the people driving them. Thank you so much for your support!
We want everyone to be safe at our demonstration. They shouldn’t experience discrimination. If they experience discrimination, we don’t want to leave them alone with it. We have an awareness team. We have an awareness concept. If you’re not feeling well, you can go to the awareness team. All people who can see can recognize the awareness team by their yellow (or pink?) safety vests. The awareness team will also help you if you experience discrimination.
There is an area where everyone has to wear masks.
This is important for people who get sick particularly quickly.
And who then get particularly sick.
4 p.m. demonstration: We are visible!
We’ll start at around 4 p. m.
We’ll go to the Bonner Marktplatz.
We’ll have posters and banners with us.
We don’t have any megaphones yet.
We won’t play any music either.
Why? To make the pride accessible for neurodivergent people. And, after all, this pride is for us disabled and neurodivergent people in the first place.
We want the demonstration to be as accessible as possible.
There are rickshaws for those who can’t walk that far or that well.
Everything we say is in simple language.
The awareness team will be present, too.
As will be a mask-only area.
The police are a great danger for many people. Acknowledging that, we suggest you to walk in the middle of the demonstration. So that there is more space between the police and yourselves.
We want paramedics to be there.
Now, we will provide you with some information on the route.
Starting at Frankenbadplatz, we’ll pass Vorgebirgsstrasse and Maxstrasse to reach the town hall (Stadthaus).
The ground of the streets in the old town are quite uneven.
From there, we’ll continue by Friedensplatz, with its cobblestone and slight incline. Via Sternstraße we will reach Marktplatz.
There is another slight incline on Sternstraße, but at least the ground is smooth and even.
Market square: We are loud!
We then take a break of about 30 minutes on the market square.
We play music.
We shout slogans.
There are accessible toilets on the market square.
You can also fill up water bottles there.
We invite you to accompany us back to Frankenbadplatz.
There are people who can help you if you want so.
If you want someone to pick you up at the train station, please write to us.
We want to make it possible for you to take part, whether you have lower or higher support needs.
